Avoca beach, Long Exp by MattLauder Avoca beach, Long Exp by MattLauder
Out playing once again with the 10 stop filter during the day.

This is a shot was made from several images, waiting for different events the base shot was the main wave image.
Another shot with the rainbow from a huge wave crashing.
Another shot with the foreground water
Another shot for the water running off the rocks.
So a four image blend.

Just wish there was some sky interest as well. But it just means I will have to head out and shoot it again. It's all fun.

In my opinion everything is great apart from noise on the sky.

Thanks... the original dosent have it. I did two types of sharpening and it pushed the jpeg I bit to far in the sky.

The noise isn't an issue, it's barely noticeable.

Oh this is wonderful.... always a shame when the sky doesn't put on a show but i have to say your blending looks fantastic.. that wave coming in is really dramatic... love the water falling of the rocks, the rocks themselves really add colour and texture and the rainbow is just wonderful... so with all that said the image has a lot of wonderful elements in it to keep the eyes busy so to be honest i really don't miss a big dramatic sky... although at this location it would look bloody awesome :giggle: :)

Thanks Drew. The sky has some funny artifacts in there and I think that is from the sharpening of the jpeg. The original dosent have it. 5D Mark II works great at the higher ISO's

I'm lucky to get to ISO 800 with my 40D. I usually keep it low and open the aperture if that's the case.

Yea even my old 1Ds Mark II was scratchy at 800iso.

Really the 1DS MarkII, wouldn't have thought that'd be scratchy at higher ISO's

Clouds on the way mate.. hang in on there. This is great exposure blending and sould be an eye opener for your viewers. Good result. Can I ask which filter you went for and is it on a 16-35 or another lens?

Do you know how this was blended?

Matt tells us
This is a shot was made from several images, waiting for different events the base shot was the main wave image.
Another shot with the rainbow from a huge wave crashing.
Another shot with the foreground water
Another shot for the water running off the rocks.
So a four image blend.

so he stacked them, made masks and then chose what he wanted in the final shot with the brush! You can do that Mal!

But how is the blending? Just overlaying and brushing in?

i think the photos are all similar exposures and taken at the same point on a tripod so its just a matter of erasing parts and leaving parts,
Like this tute....

Thats my guess

This is on the 24-70mm lens. I now have the 17-40mm I was going to get the 16-35mm but the front is 82mm and you cant buy a 82mm 10 stop filter so I didnt buy it and got the 17-40mm which still is 77mm.
